Home away from home

"Absolute Resource Associates is an environmental firm out of Portsmouth New Hampshire. In 2016 ARA received a major contract with the Navy, and received a task order for a large job at the Cutler Maine Naval Facility. The TALBOT HOUSE INN was a God’s Blessing after 12 hour days. It was like coming home, literally with all the comforts of home. Including the owners Liz and Michael greeting us at the door saying, ' WELCOME HOME each day.'

ARA was on the project for 3 months and Liz and Michael made us each feel as though we were going home each and every night. The project demanded long hours, and Liz and Michael accommodated us with very early am hot breakfasts and great conversations. The breakfasts included a cold buffet and a hot cooked meal consisting of eggs, bacon, crapes, pancakes, fruit, etc. A great start to every day. All the rooms were very clean, large, with their own spacious, private bathrooms. Late in the evenings, as time permitted I would sit out front on an Adirondack chair sipping a glass of wine overlooking the river & bald eagles, just before retiring for the night. Liz would often visit and bring a small dinner or snack, just to top off the evening. Great location for northern Maine with plenty of outdoor activity. I would highly recommend THE TALBOT HOUSE to all." - Guy Sylvester, CEO Absolute Resource Associates

Tea with tour

"The Talbot House Inn Tea was an elegant delight! So much fun! What a surprise in Downeast Maine! After just having been to a much praised "Garden Tea" in Ellsworth, which turned out to be stingey with the food, and cost nearly three times as much, we were so happy with Talbot House. The owners, Liz and Michael Henry, didn't have a "well, this will do" attitude; it was obvious that they put their "all" into it, and tried hard to make it absolutely special for us. And, special it was! First, we had a whole tour of the building, including any guest rooms that weren't occupied, right up to the third floor and the wonderful view thru unique windows. I'd like to stay in one of these rooms any day! Then, each party of 4 or 5 was ushered into a separate room, again, with those gorgeous windows, covered in white shutters and lace----and the table was all set in white, with white china. Michael and Liz had a menu at each place for just that day, dated, listing 4 different courses, with, of course, tea! Mouth-watering, just looking at the menu. My secret is that I don't really like tea, but this tea, from the Englishman's B & B in Cherryfield, was actually delicious. The first course was a BIG plate of sandwiches, including the obligatory cucumber (a la The Importance of Being Earnest), along with egg salad, salmon, and artichoke hearts. Delicious, all. Plus, some mini vegetable quiches, my favorite. My mother is a "tea connoisseur" and this plate passed her test, and we hadn't even seen the rest yet! Next, we were served (serve from the left, take away from the right!) some blueberry scones, and not just a dry scone----it came with lovely little bowls of raspberry jam, honey, or mock clotted cream. I tried them all and they were SO GOOD! What a treat! After that came a bowl for each of us of melon balls and cherries. THEN, the piece de resistance---the 3 tiered tray of desserts---so pretty!! Little pink frosted cupcakes, shortcake squares, tiny brownie cubes, and chocolate covered strawberries. Just lovely! And yummy! A proper tea. It was blissful. Some of us wore dresses and hats and gloves and it made it so much fun!! A great way to do something special and different from our usual lives, a great place to gab, and a nice place to meet new people. Great value for the money. My whole party heartily recommends it! I've already told several people about it and word is spreading, so get your reservations in!" - S.P. ~ Machias, ME

Congratulation on one year

"Denise and I wanted to drop you a note of thanks for your gracious hospitality during our stay at The Talbot House Inn and congratulations on ONE YEAR in business. From our experience spanning over two decades of visiting bed and breakfasts across the country - you are right up there with the best of them! You've done a fabulous job on the accommodations and everything was mechanically sound, comfortable and well appointed. Your help and insights into local points of interest and dining saved us lot of time and we thoroughly enjoyed a very refreshing swim at the local lake you recommended that was conveniently located not 5 minutes away! We also enjoyed a relaxing time just sitting and enjoying cool refreshments under the shade of your beautiful trees with a view of the town center and river. Your spot really commands it's section of Route 1. It is obvious that you have a passion as Innkeepers and it shows. Thanks again for a great time of relaxation and friendly conversation in a perfect Victorian setting with all of the modern comforts." - B. & D. ~ Bristol, RI
